Introduction:

Through the friendly negotiation of both parties, ZUEL and the Office of China (Hubei) Pilot Free Trade Zone established a strategic partnership and jointly set up the Research Institute of China (Hubei) Pilot Free Trade Zone (the Institute) in July, 2020. Supported and guided by the Department of Commerce of Hubei Province and the Office of China (Hubei) Pilot Free Trade Zone, the Institute formed a cross-disciplinary research team with over 30 members by building on ZUEL’s strength of “integrating economics, law, and management”. Its members include Changjiang Scholars, members from the Committee of Financial and Economic Affairs of Hubei Provincial People’s Congress, Wuhan Advisory Committee members, as well as prestigious professors of economics, management, and law. Since its establishment, the Institute has proactively offered relevant counseling service in policy decisions to the Department of Commerce of Hubei Province, Wuhan Advisory Committee, plus others. The Institute was also responsible for six projects related to China (Hubei) Pilot Free Trade Zone, eight individual projects, and a dozen of reports on policy consultation, among which several reports were adopted by the Chinese People’s Republic Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the General Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Hubei Provincial People’s Government, and Hubei Provincial Committee of the CPC.

In addition, scholars and experts from the Institute have attended a great deal of symposiums organized by the Department of Commerce of Hubei Province to actively make recommendations. In sharing public goods, the Institute has so far published a total of over twenty issues of academic publications like Pilot Free Trade Zone Research and Work Newsletter and Hubei Open Economy Development Brief that are published on a regular basis. Both of the above publications are released synchronously on the Institutes WeChat public account The Highland for Inland Openness to serve the society as a public good, which have hit the good headlines. In organizing and joining activities, the Institute successfully held Conference on Replicating and Applying Reform and Innovation Achievements of Hubei Pilot Free Trade Zone to boost the development of free trade by discussing its cutting-edge researches, which has been pushed up positive headlines and thus enabled China (Hubei) Pilot Free Trade Zone to grow its nationwide influence. Meanwhile, driven by the opening-up principle, the Institute proactively attends academic meetings held by other pilot free trade zones, where it has received a number of awards.
